WHAT IS COUNTY CAMP?
County Camp allows youth of all ages (9-18) to camp at the Texas 4-H Conference Center at one time. Groups are housed together in the dorms (by gender) unless it is specified differently on the registration form. Individual youth are housed where space is available.
NEW!!!! County Camp I, July 1-3, 2008 will have two concurrent sessions, one for teens, ages 14-19 with a focus on Outdoor Living Skills, Outdoor Education and Aquatics! We'll develop teamwork and communication skills on the Challenge Course, sailing and kayaking on Lake Brownwood and taking Rifle and Archery up a notch! Our evenings include fun and games and dancing the night away over in the Leadership Lodge. At the same time, we will offer our traditional County Camp experience July 1-3 as well for youth ages 9-13. Sessions II, III and IV offer the traditional county camp experience for youth ages 9-19.
Campers will experience team-building and communication skill development through their participation in Challenge Course activities, canoeing, rifle, archery, swimming, dance, environmental education and other camp activities.
Who May Attend
County Camp participants are defined as a youth who has completed 2nd grade or is 9 years old through age 18. Clover Kids (ages 5-8) or other youth under age 9 and have not completed 2nd grade will not be allowed to register for County Camp.
Chaperoning Information
The Texas 4-H Conference Center is committed to the appropriate ratio of youth to adult chaperones for every youth groups. The required ratio is 1 adult chaperone for every 8 youth of the same gender. We are also committed to the Youth Protection Standards of the Texas 4-H Program. All chaperones should be enrolled on a Volunteer Registration Form and qualified through the Youth Protection Standards program Chaperones from your county are required to:
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Have completed a Volunteer Registration Form and be qualified through the Youth Protection Standards program.
- Supervise 4-H’ers during all scheduled activities and free time.
- Stay in dorms at night to chaperone youth.
- Actively participate in all activities and encourage all participants to become involved.
- Assist Summer Staff if help is requested.
- Be alert to health needs and special problems of participants.
- Supervise cleaning of dorms and grounds upon departure.
- Provide a completed Adult Health History Form and other forms as required.
County Camp offers a number of benefits for youth:
- An environment where all participants, youth and adult, can relax, have fun and experience a positive atmosphere.
- A program where everyone can participate and learn by doing.
- College-age Program Assistants and Counselors who carefully plan and conduct each session. Summer Staff are hired annually and bring new and exciting activities and a fresh outlook to the program.
- Opportunities for participants to get involved in leadership opportunities by participating in flag ceremonies, KP duty, and other activities.
- An opportunity to meet and make new friends with 4-H members from across the State!
