OUTDOOR LIVING SKILLS (OLS)

The Texas 4-H Center’s Leadership Experience Adventure Program offers a Demo Tent Setupcertification training in the American Camping Association’s Outdoor Living Skills program. This program is designed to provide participants with skills needed to explore the natural world while preserving it for future generations.

While camping, participants will learn the American Camping Association’s Outdoor Living Skills Program Leader curriculum. The training is conducted while participating in a 2-3 night camp-out. OLS teaches participants environ-mental awareness, forges environmental ethics, and promotes environmental respons-ibility while learning skills to live comfortably in an outdoor environment.

Hiking LessonUpon completion of the training, participants will be Program Leaders in the OLS program. Program Leaders will be certified to teach and lead the OLS program for youth and adult audiences.

Participants will learn minimum impact camping skills, outdoor cookery, hygiene, safety while camping, wilderness survival, map and compass and much more! All of these topics are taught in an experiential method through participating in a camping trip.

Participants are assigned to camp groups and will lodge together in tents and cook their own meals together with the the resources provided. All camping equipment can be provided by the Texas 4-H Center for the OLS training if your group does not have gear available.
